November 16, 2008: Bethlehem Baptist Church Men’s Day

Standing Rock, Alabama, Rev. W. H. Trammel, pas- tor, wil be held Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. Central Standard Time.

The guest minister is Reverend Louis Upshaw, Pastor of the Mount Herman Missionary Baptist Church, Lanett, Alabama, whose choir and ushers, wil serve during the observance. The Early Star Lodge, # 395, Brother M.C. Reeves, Worshipful Master, wil be a special guest of this Men’s Day observance. The theme is: “I go the way of al the earth; be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man; and keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk his ways. (I Kings 2:2-3)

Deacon Henry Burton will serve as the Emcee for the afternoon. Deacon Burton is a member of the Ozias Missionary Baptist Church in Camp Hil, where Reverend O. C. Stiggers serves as pastor.

Deacon Walter Shephard is Program Chairman, and al men of the community are invited and urged to be present to help Bethlehem Baptist Church to honor Christian Men.


December 7, 2008: Lanett City Schools Ground Breaking Battle Of The Bands at Lanett High’s Morgan-Washburn Stadium

Lanett, AL — A new National Christian Magazine known as Favor Magazine collaborates with The Lanett City Schools System to bring Lanett High School it’s first Battle Of The Bands competition on December 7th, 2008.  The event is set to begin at 3:00 PM EST until 7:00 PM EST and will feature Tuskegee University’s Marching Pipers BandIf you’ve never seen an HBCU marching band then you’re in for a treat. These talented student performers put heart and soul into mind blowing visual displays while creating amazing music in front of  sweltering, awestruck crowds.  The performance by Tuskegee’s Marching Piper’s promises to add a collegiate touch to this competition of the areas most talented High School Bands.  Some of the High School Bands to hit the field on December 7th are Lanett, Lafayette, Booker T. People’s Voice Co-Founder and Columnist, L.C. Thornton will be the guest speaker at Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church on November 9 2008, for their Annual Men’s Day Observance.  

Although Thornton says he is not sure what the subject of his talk will be, those in attendance can expect the same hard-hitting, matter-of-fact and no-nonesense approach to other subjects he addresses weekly regarding the status of black men and boys in our communities. 

The public is cordially invited to attend.
